Nature Conservation Mauritius

  • Dolphin watching monitoring (observing the dolphins with the boats and swimmers for behaviour and industry information)
  • Diversity study (various trips at points around the island to identify whale and dolphin species and areas that they’re using, also including turtles, sea birds and other large marine animals). The field work is due to finish by end of Feb, but another part of this project is education sessions in schools, which follows the school semester dates.
  • Turtle monitoring in the area (abundance and density, occasional trips to the northern islands to check for nesting activities)
  • Setting up of reef monitoring (a follow-up of a project done 4 years ago; health check)
  • Various awareness programs including the above projects during specific periods (following the school curriculum)
